Description | OTTAWA - Quebec MP Nycole Turmel says she's honoured the New Democrat caucus is unanimously backing her as interim leader.
The caucus held a special session today in Ottawa to consider Turmel as a temporary replacement for leader Jack Layton.
He recommended her for the post on Monday, when he announced he was taking a leave of absence while undergoing another round of cancer therapy.
The former national union leader, who is already chair of the caucus, says the party wants to make sure it's ready to fight for families when Parliament resumes in September. |
