DescriptionThe China Post news staff--With Taiwan's legislative elections to be fought mostly between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) at the district level, many of the island's smaller parties are working to get enough votes to send their at-large candidates to the national assembly.

Under Taiwan's single-district two-vote system (單一選區兩票制), people in a legislative election can cast two votes, one for their district candidate and one for their favored political party. Parties that receive at least five percent of the total votes may send two at-large candidates to the Legislative Yuan. The more votes it gets, the more at-large candidates it can have at the legislature.
