DescriptionNewt Gingrich is demanding an apology from NBC News after it aired a report citing complaints from unnamed former advisers blaming his wife, Callista, for many of the problems that led to his campaign's staff shake-up last week.

"I believe NBC owes Callista an apology, because the fact is my campaign is my campaign," Gingrich said in an interview with Fox News's Greta Van Susteren. "Yes, we make decisions as a couple, but in the end, I take full responsibility. And I think the program this morning was totally irresponsible, and personally reprehensible, and the kind of thing that makes it hard to get decent people to run for public office."

Sixteen Gingrich staffers resigned en masse last week accusing Gingrich of being a lazy candidate who allowed his wife to assert too much control over the campaign's schedule and focus. Things came to a head when Gingrich dropped off the campaign trail earlier this month for a vacation in Greece with his wife—an odd absence at a time when Gingrich was struggling to regain momentum after a bumpy launch to his 2012 effort.

A NBC report yesterday rehashed the complaints his ex-staffers have been making to reporters in the last week—and irked Gingrich, who likened his marriage to the union between former President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy.
