Description | Despite his promise of a "very important announcement," close advisers to Mike Huckabee don't expect him to announce Saturday that he's running for president in 2012.
The former Arkansas governor said during a Friday radio appearance that he'll make a "very important announcement" during his Fox News TV show on Saturday evening. Huckabee is keeping the details under wraps, and some sources close to him said they had no advance notice and didn't know what would happen.
But several people familiar with his deliberations said they don't expect an announcement that he's running, and that he's put nothing in place to suggest he's ready to quickly flip the switch on a campaign.
Despite his strong standing in national and early-state polls, Huckabee has put in place few of the pieces necessary for another presidential run. He's often spoken of the lucrative post-political career he'd be walking away from as a source of hesitation. In addition to his Fox News show, Huckabee has a radio show and some other business ventures, providing him a hefty salary for the first time in his life.
In what many took as just the latest sign that the 2008 Iowa caucus winner won't run again, Huckabee announced a new venture earlier this week — educational, animated DVDs to teach history to kids. |
