Description | When leadership consultant Courtney Lynch began making overtures to Virginia Democratic party officials about a Senate bid, she acknowledges her inquiries were met with polite dismissiveness.
"Obviously the reception was not too favorable. Who am I to step up and run for a Senate seat?," she said, recalling conversations she had with party leaders shortly after Sen. Jim Webb announced his retirement plans on Feb. 9. "Everyone was cautious with their words, but you could read between the lines.”
At her core, Lynch is a bright-eyed idealist -- which partly explains why she's preparing to submit paperwork to the Federal Election Commission in the coming days to form an exploratory committee for the marquee Senate race of the 2012 cycle.
"There’s not many times in the season of one’s life when a Senate run is possible. Is this a little earlier than I thought? Sure, absolutely," she explained in an interview Wednesday. "But I've traveled the country the last eight years . . . People are frustrated with career politicians. They want fresh faces in the mix." |
