Description | "The state House has adopted its proposed redistricting plan after more than an hour of discussion over the changes in House districts.
The resolution, which passed 65-56, was held on a motion to reconsider, so lawmakers will return to the Capitol at 8 a.m. Saturday to finalize the vote.
Most of those who voted against the proposed map were Republicans.
The plan would increase majority black districts in the state from 39 to 44 and reduce the number of split precincts from 449 to 189.
Each House district will contain within 5 percent of 24,322 people.
The Senate is expected to take up plans for new Senate districts next week." |
