Description | House GOP Warns White House on Budget Plan
House Republicans warned a White House official that Congress may fail to adopt President Bush's budget priorities this election year because of GOP divisions over spending levels.
One of the leaders, House Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle, R-Iowa, said Friday he told White House budget chief Joshua Bolten that he is concerned the president's forthcoming budget will propose spending that is too high. That is a widespread concern among conservatives.
Failure to complete a budget would embarrass Republicans who run the House and Senate. It could also end up upsetting conservatives, the party's base voters, if spending ended up being higher than they prefer. |
