‘Jesus’ OK now in (PA) House

| Description | "The name “Jesus” will be permitted to be uttered once again in the state House of Representatives after the use of the Christian prophet’s name was banned by Democrats in 2009 as “offensive.”
The Reverend Gerald Stoltzfoos, Freedom Valley Worship Center, Straban Township, has been invited this year to give the opening prayer for the 2011 session of the House by state Representative William Tallman, R-Reading Township.
Tallman stated Thursday evening that Stoltzfoos had accepted his offer to present the opening prayer, but that its previously scheduled Feb. 16 date has been postponed, and a new date has not been set.
“That calendar has been changed, and that means his name will have to go back in the hopper, so to speak.,” Tallman said. “The speaker of the House determines the schedules.”
Tallman had previously asked Stoltzfoos to present the opening prayer for the 2009 opening session of the House, and was asked to provide an advance copy for review by the office of the Democrat Speaker of the House, Keith McCall.
Stoltzfoos was subsequently informed by McCall’s staff that they had determined he had used an offensive word in his prayer — “Jesus.” |
