| Description | Sarah Palin's big problems among the GOP faithful are on clear display in a new poll that shows large numbers of Republicans aren’t sure about her and the tea party darling trails President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup in Tennessee — even with the president's job approval numbers running low in the state.
The poll in the solidly red state where she and McCain crushed Obama by 15 points two years ago is a warning bell that Palin, despite her following and appeal to conservatives, remains fairly radioactive to some Republican voters, who are far from convinced she can win in 2012.
In a hypothetical match up, 42 percent said they'd back Obama, while 37 percent picked Palin. Another roughly 20 percent picked none of the above, and other potential Republican candidates weren't measured.
Palin scored most of her support from self-described tea party members, with 64 percent saying they'd back her. But among Republicans, just 63 percent said they'd vote for her. |
