|Description||Federal investigators say just two days before a possibly politically-motivated deadly shooting rampage on Saturday in Arizona, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s office received disturbing threats that resulted in an arrest. |
John Troy Davis, 44, is accused of calling Bennet’s, D-Colo., office on Thursday and stating that he might come by and shoot people over frustrations with his Social Security benefits. He was arrested on Friday.
Davis also made reference to the murder of an unknown woman, but federal investigators do not believe there is any credibility to the statement.
“I’m a schizophrenic and I need help,” Davis told an unidentified Bennet staffer, according to an arrest affidavit made public yesterday.
“I’m just going to come down there and shoot you all,” Davis continued, according to the affidavit.
Staffers said they recognized Davis, who is a frequent caller to the office over the Social Security issue.
Davis also told the Bennet staffer, “I killed that woman. To get your attention, I will go down there and set fire to the perimeter,” according to the affidavit.
