Description | Voters keep asking: Who can beat Bush?
Electability, one of the most-bandied of buzzwords on the lips of political pundits these days, is emerging as one of the most compelling issues on the minds of Democratic voters across the nation and particularly here as they prepare to cast the first ballots of the 2004 presidential race.
A visceral dislike of President Bush, anger at what is considered his conservative agenda and a lingering outrage over his victory in the disputed 2000 presidential election are fueling much of the Democrats' fervor as they seek a potent challenger to the president, according to many political observers.
"It may very well be that electability is a more salient issue for Democrats this time because they care so much about unseating an incumbent president that they really dislike and resent," said Linda Fowler, director of the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and Civic Leadership at Dartmouth College in Hanover. |
