Description | "North Dakota's Supreme Court has rejected an attempt to force a recall election for U.S. Sen. Kent Conrad.
The court ruled today that North Dakota's Constitution doesn't allow for the recall of a U.S. senator.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger had refused to approve a recall petition against the Democratic senator, drafted by a group called Recall ND.
The group sued Jaeger, asking the Supreme Court to order Jaeger to take action on the petition. The high court rejected the request in a unanimous opinion today.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem issued a legal opinion earlier, saying the recall wasn't allowed.
Jaeger and Stenehjem are Republicans. The Supreme Court's opinion was written by Justice Dale Sandstrom, who is a former Republican state public service commissioner." |
