Description | COLCHESTER, Ill. — State Rep. Rich Myers, who was re-elected to a ninth term in office Nov. 2, died Wednesday. Myers had been undergoing treatment for cancer since March.
Myers, 62, was in the statehouse late in November, accompanied by his wife, Chris, and entered the Illinois House chamber in a wheelchair. He entered a hospital on Monday and his wife and daughter, Alison, were at his side when he died. They have requested privacy, according to a release from Myers’ legislative office.
Fellow lawmakers remembered Myers fondly.
“He was always a decent man, and I’m going to miss him,” said Rep. Jil Tracy, R-Mount Sterling.
Tracy and Myers have represented neighboring House districts and Tracy relied on him as a sounding board and an expert on farm issues. |
