Description | Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), a hero of the tea party movement, has endorsed Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) for House Republican Conference chair.
Paul announced his support in a Monday letter that was released by Hensarling’s office. He is running against Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who says her campaign is based on the need for the GOP to have a “constitutional conservative” at the leadership table.
Paul’s letter is but one paragraph:
“As a fellow Texan I am pleased to announce my support for your candidacy as chairman of the House Republican Conference,” the letter reads. “I believe you have a unique opportunity to guide the conference to support legislation that reduces the size and scope of the federal government.”
Paul is the latest conservative to endorse Hensarling. Presumptive Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, Reps. Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Spencer Bachus (Ala.), Paul Broun (Ga.) and Jason Chaffetz (Utah) have all endorsed Hensarling.
Bachmann has support from Reps. John Kline (Minn.) and Steve King (Iowa). |
