Description | Don Stenberg said he's giving serious consideration to running for U.S. Senate, just days after being electing Nebraska State Treasurer.
The Republican and former Nebraska Attorney General said the state needs to replace Sen. Ben Nelson in 2012 if the country is to go in a new direction.
"If I become convinced that I am the best Republican leader in Nebraska to go to Washington to help take our country back, then I will run," said Stenberg in a news release.
Stenberg said his first priority is ensuring the smooth operation of the State Treasurer's Office. He said he'd make a definite decision about running at the appropriate time.
Gov. Dave Heineman announced on Thursday that he would not seek Nelson's senate seat. Current Attorney General Jon Bruning announced on Friday that he is forming an exploratory committee to determine what is needed to start a campaign for the position. |
