DescriptionTrailing Gov. Quinn by more than 19,000 votes, Republican Bill Brady plans to concede the gubernatorial race Friday afternoon, sources close to his campaign confirmed Friday morning.

Brady has scheduled a 1:30 p.m. briefing with reporters at a Bloomington hotel to end a gubernatorial campaign that had led Quinn in most pre-election polls.

The Associated Press called the race in Quinn’s favor on Thursday, after it reported the governor being ahead of Brady by 19,413 votes out of 3.69 million votes cast — a difference equivalent to one-half of 1 percent.

That spread represented the closest gubernatorial race since 1982, when Republican James Thompson eked out a 5,074-vote win over Democrat Adlai Stevenson.
