Description | Republican Judy Baar Topinka doesn't need to be Illinois state comptroller.
After a distinguished career in government -- three terms as state treasurer and stints in both chambers of the Illinois Legislature -- she could simply pack it in.
But standing by and watching her beloved state slide into a financial abyss is killing her. Throwing slippers at the television gets you only so far.
"I'm angry because I know things can be better," Topinka told us.
She's right. And Illinois would be better off with a dose of Topinka's trademark brand of smarts, savvy and chutzpah.
The Sun-Times endorses Topinka for state comptroller over her main opponent, Democratic state Rep. David Miller. Green Party candidate R. Erika Schafer and Libertarian Julie Fox also are running. |
