Description"The Providence Journal just broke a troubling story in which John Robitaille asserts he was offered, "anything, anything you want to get out of this race.”

Often the public, and even politicians themselves, discuss the troubling role of money and power in politics. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a prime example.

Frank Caprio, the epitome of a political legacy, is doing everything in his political and financial power to narrow the field in the Governor's race in order for him to seize the seat. This is not simply about picking a horse in the race, this is about being real with the Rhode Island voters. It was interesting, and somewhat understandable, when Patrick Lynch made a sudden exit from the race after sharing a coffee with Frank Caprio. Now, Robitaille alleges during a similar meeting Caprio in veiled terms asserted his wishes for Robitaille, the Republican front-runner, to drop from the race for Governor.

Two things are for certain. For one, this is an extremely troubling indictment of Rhode Island politics and the "way things work" here in Rhode Island. During shadowy meetings and quaint coffee meetings Pols and the powers that be strong-arm individuals into doing and saying what they want. For a state, a country, that has yearned for candor and fresh worldview, this is a devastating example of politics as usual being perpetrated by Caprio compatriots. Secondly, Senator Lincoln Chafee scares the Caprio camp. That much is obvious from the article and also from Caprio's recent proactive negative ad against Chafee. There are still countless liberals "not sold" on Caprio and Caprio continues to yearn and vie for the moderate and Republican votes he obviously feels he cannot get with Robitaille in the race.
