| Description | California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the subject of a recent House ethics probe, is scheduled to headline an Aug. 31 event in Des Moines to fight poverty and promote financial literacy in economically challenged communities.
Waters is a 10-term House member representing some of southern California’s most struggling communities, including a wide section of South Central Los Angeles. The event, part of the Knowledge is Power series, is sponsored by Creative Visions Human Development Institute in Des Moines.
“Mrs. Waters was invited because of her lifelong commitment to causes which support our agency’s commitment to develop strong individuals, families and communities through educational and economic empowerment,” said Ako Abdul-Samad, Creative Visions’ founder and CEO.
The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Des Moines Central Library, 1000 Grand Ave. |
