Description | A federal judge lifted his stay prohibiting same-sex marriages Thursday, allowing the ceremonies to take place immediately throughout California.
Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker had put the stay in place after ruling earlier this month that Proposition 8 -- a voter-mandated ban on same-sex marriages -- was unconstitutional.
Thursday’s decision opens the way for the first same-sex marriage in the state since March 11, 2004, when the state Supreme Court ordered the ceremonies halted. |
