Description | Florida’s Attorney General Bill McCollum has proposed an immigration bill that would be considerably tougher than Arizona’s hotly debated immigration bill. McCollum is running for Governor of Florida on the Republican ticket and was flanked by state Representative Will Synder when he made his announcement.
The bill proposed by McCollum requires law enforcement officials to check immigration status if they suspect that someone that they have stopped or arrested is an illegal immigrant. Reuters News reports as follows on the new proposed law.
“I think Arizona is going to want this law,” McCollum said at the event in Orlando presenting the legislation.
His office said it would go further than the Arizona law by giving judges and law enforcement officers more tools in dealing with illegal immigrants, from bond rulings through to sentencing.
It was also strengthened against potential constitutional challenges, it added.” |
