Description | With nearly all the ballots counted in the GOP gubernatorial primary race, Evergreen businessman Dan Maes claimed victory Tuesday night in Colorado's race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination over embattled candidate Scott McInnis.
Maes' lead, with 93 percent of precincts reporting, stood at 1.3 percentage points, a margin beyond the half-percentage point needed for an automatic recount.
"I am confident I am your nominee for the Republican candidate for governor," Maes told a raucous crowd in an announcement just after midnight.
Meanwhile, McInnis told supporters at this victory party to go home and get some sleep, but assured them that they would be celebrating the final outcome. |
