Daley pays political consultants -- he's "thinking" about re-election

| Description | Mayor Richard Daley didn't raise any campaign money for the first half of 2010, but he did spend more than $250,000 on a polling firm and his longtime political consultant as he contemplates whether to seek a record seventh term next year.
Despite the lack of fundraising, Daley still had nearly $1.5 million in his campaign fund at the end of June, according to newly filed reports with the Illinois State Board of Elections. The mayor, with substantial backing from the business community, also has the ability to raise significant funds in short order.
Mayoral spokeswoman Jacquelyn Heard said the payments to the polling firm and political consultant only indicate Daley is considering a re-election effort, not that he’s made up his mind.
“It just means he’s thinking about it,” she said. “Anything beyond that would be a guess.”
The fund paid $100,000 to campaign consultant Dana Herring, the mayor’s longtime strategist. It also paid nearly $156,000 last spring to the polling firm of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research Inc. |
