Description | EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the fifth in an occasional series of stories based on meetings between The Telegraph editorial board and candidates for federal and state office in the upcoming elections.
Democratic congressional candidate Katrina Swett said if elected she would donate to the federal treasury more than $30,000 of her salary until Congress approved legislation putting the federal government on the path to a balanced budget.
Swett, 55, said voters of all stripes are angry about irresponsible deficit spending in Washington that threaten the economic vitality of the country because the debt represents 98 percent of the gross domestic product. |
