Description | The National Tea Party Federation has expelled activist Mark Williams over his attacks on the NAACP.
A spokesman for the federation, which is seeking to become a national umbrella organization, said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Williams's racially tinged attacks on the NAACP’s recent resolution condemning some of the tea party’s tactics as “racist” went too far.
The federation also expelled the Williams-tied Tea Party Express, which has organized some of the movement's biggest events, including rallies with former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin.
“We, in the last 24 hours, have expelled Tea Party Express and Mark Williams from the National Tea Party Federation because of the letter that he wrote,” said federation spokesman David Webb, who called the letter “clearly offensive.”
Williams stoked controversy last week by posting a “letter” from NAACP leader Ben Jealous to President Abraham Lincoln. |
