Description | Former Arizona Rep. J.D. Hayworth, struggling to regain traction in his flagging primary challenge to Republican Sen. John McCain, delivered an unrelenting barrage of attacks against the incumbent at a debate here Friday night. Almost nothing was off-limits — not even McCain's failed 2008 presidential bid against Barack Obama.
After sustaining weeks of attacks from McCain over his work as a late-night pitch man for a company that promised free government grants, Hayworth accused the four-term senator of pursuing him with a vigor McCain failed to show in the last presidential campaign.
"John, if you had told the truth about Barack Obama the way you're spreading falsehoods about me, you might be president of the United States right now," Hayworth said. |
