Description | On the day Conrad Burns pulled off his electoral upset of U.S. Sen. John Melcher in November 1988, Burns’ farm-broadcasting colleague Taylor Brown was in the Denver airport, where he was told he couldn’t have a drink with dinner.
The waitress said that in Colorado, you can’t buy alcohol on Election Day until after the polls close.
"We thought, ‘Man, that wouldn’t work up in Montana,’" Brown said with a grin. "We’ve got a friend (running) up there, and the only chance he’s got is if people are drinking when they vote."
More than 200 die-hard Republicans, gathered at the state Republican Party Platform Convention in Billings on Friday morning to fete Burns, rocked with loud, long laughter. |
