Description | Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Dallas, acknowledged Monday that he is one of eight House members involved in a "preliminary review" of links between campaign donations and votes on a financial regulation bill.
The House Office of Congressional Ethics has sent letters to lobbyists asking for detailed fundraising and campaign contribution information for the lawmakers, all of whom serve on the Financial Services or Ways and Means committees.
Hensarling has been told the review involves donations between Dec. 2 and 11, the date the House approved the legislation, spokesman George Rasley said.
According to the Hill newspaper, the ethics office received an allegation that donations may have influenced opposition to the bill. Rasley emphasized that Hensarling began publicly opposing the measure six months earlier.
The review involves five Republicans and three Democrats. Hensarling is the only Texan. |
