Independent candidate Cutler could be one to watch

| Description | The Maine governor's chair is no stranger to Independents.
Two of the last five governors were nonparty: James Longley, who served 1975-79, and the wildly popular Angus King, who served from 1995-2003.
Eliot Cutler will try to follow in their footsteps.
Of the three candidates skipping Tuesday's primary to run as Independents, the 63-year-old Cape Elizabeth resident stands the best chance of succeeding King — or at the very least capturing a large swath of votes in the November election, according to one expert.
That's because Cutler boasts perhaps the most impressive resume of any candidate, Independent or not.
He has served, at various times, as a top White House adviser, business leader, lawyer, and education official. |
