DescriptionFormer Gov. Terry Branstad leads Bob Vander Plaats, his nearest rival in the Republican gubernatorial primary, by 15 percentage points in a new poll by KCCI-TV.

Branstad has support from 44 percent of likely GOP primary voters. Vander Plaats has 29 percent and Rod Roberts has 12 percent, with 15 percent undecided. That’s a surprisingly high number of undecideds just five days from the June 8 primary.

This is the second GOP primary poll this week showing Branstad under 50 percent. Public Policy Polling had him at 46 percent earlier this week. There was a lot of chatter about that — but he doesn’t need 50 percent to win the primary.

The poll of 400 likely Republican primary voters, taken May 31 to June 2, has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
