Description | There's a Republican U.S. Senate primary in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. For real.
Former U.S. Rep. Pat Toomey, the endorsed party candidate, faces conservative activist Peg Luksik, who has run three losing campaigns for statewide office over the last two decades.
Voters can be forgiven if the GOP campaign has escaped their notice, given the noisy and expensive Democratic struggle between former Republican Sen. Arlen Specter and U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak dominating news coverage and TV advertising.
Toomey, a former Wall Street trader and small-business owner, stresses a fiscally conservative message. He calls federal spending out of control and the accumulated U.S. debt "unsustainable," and promises to end bank bailouts, stop illegal immigration, and fight to repeal the Democrats' "nationalization" of health care. |
