Description | Stewart Udall, an advocate for the American West who oversaw the addition of 2.4 million acres to national parks and pushed for landmark environmental legislation as U.S. Interior secretary under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, has died. He was 90.
Udall died this morning at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, of natural causes, according to an e-mailed statement from Marissa Padilla, press secretary to U.S. Senator Thomas Udall, Stewart’s son. He had been confined to his bed following a fall last week, the statement said. |
