Description | "Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato has challenged the nominating petitions of Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, one of his competitors in the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
Hoeffel's campaign called the attempt to knock Hoeffel off the ballot "cowardly."
The Hoeffel campaign filed petitions with 7,632 signatures, including 100 signatures from 15 counties. State law requires candidates for governor to collect at least 100 signatures in 10 counties. Hoeffel is one of two candidates from the vote-rich Southeastern Pennsylvania area, home to the largest concentration of Democrats in the state.
"Joe Hoeffel is the best candidate with the best ideas. Dan Onorato is clearly scared and now he's turned desperate. This action is cowardly," said Hoeffel spokeswoman Lauren Townsend. "We're totally confident our petitions are good." |
