HARRISBURG -- The ongoing stalemate over the state budget is taking a political toll on both Gov. Ed Rendell and the state Legislature, but legislators are faring worse, according to a new poll.
Quinnipiac University yesterday released a survey of nearly 1,100 state voters showing that 44 percent disapproved of the way legislators were doing their jobs, while only 38 percent were favorable. That was a considerable turnaround from an April poll in which 49 percent approved of the Legislature's actions and only 24 percent disapproved.
Allegheny County residents were especially hard on the Legislature, disapproving of its performance by 60 percent to 27 percent. The rest were undecided.
The poll also showed a considerable erosion of support for Rendell. His 46 percent approval rating was down from 54 percent in February. Thirty-four percent of the respondents held an unfavorable view of the governor, compared with 12 percent in February. |
