Description | Former vice president Dan Quayle has been getting more publicly involved in politics recently, endorsing several Congressional candidates in the last month, and now his son is entering the political arena himself.
Ben Quayle, an attorney and principal at a local venture capital firm, filed Friday to run for the Phoenix-area seat of retiring Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.). The younger Quayle has lived in the Phoenix area for several years, and members of his extended family until recently owned the Arizona Republic.
His father announced his candidacy during an appearance on FOX News earlier today.
"The big news is my son, Ben Quayle, today filed his papers for congressman in the 3rd Congressional District here in Arizona…That, in the Quayle family, is big news. Marilyn and I are absolutely thrilled that he's running for Congress,” the former vice-president said.
“We hope that he does well. We're convinced that he'll be successful and we're very hopeful that he'll be the next congressman from the 3rd Congressional District here. He's filing his paper today." |
