Description | What did Mayor Gavin Newsom think of the State of the Union speech given Wednesday night by President Barack Obama, someone the mayor has criticized in recent weeks in advance of his recent trip to Washington?
Here is this statement issued by the Mayor’s Office:
“I applaud President Obama for his focus tonight on putting Americans back to work and growing our economy out of this severe recession. I agree strongly with the President that our top priority for 2010 must be helping our small businesses create jobs. In San Francisco, as in the rest of the country, our small and medium-sized businesses are the true engines of job creation and government must create conditions for small businesses to grow.
“By emphasizing tax credits for businesses who hire new workers, a new federal jobs bill, and investments in clean energy and our critical infrastructure, the President is building a new economic foundation that will create millions of new jobs and bring prosperity to all Americans. |
