Description | BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The seat's not vacant yet, but that hasn't stopped jockeying among politicians to fill the lieutenant governor's post - if Mitch Landrieu wins the mayor's race in New Orleans.
Polls show Landrieu with a sizable lead in the New Orleans race, leading to expectations the lieutenant governor's job might be available. The list of people said to be eyeing Landrieu's current spot grows longer each week.
The mayor's election is Feb. 6, with a runoff a month later.
Mentioned as potential lieutenant governor candidates are Secretary of State Jay Dardenne, Treasurer John Kennedy, Senate President Joel Chaisson, Senate President Pro Tem Sharon Weston Broome, Senate Finance Chairman Mike Michot and the governor's legislative liason, Scott Angelle.
Another possible contender? Former Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who was once lieutenant governor. |
