Description | Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz will be dropping out of the governor’s race tomorrow, according to the Hartford Courant, even though she’s been leading in early polls for the Democratic nomination.
The paper reports that she will instead vie for the state’s Attorney General position, which opened up when Richard Blumenthal announced his Senate candidacy this month.
The early implications of her surprising move? Ned Lamont now looks like the early favorite to become the state’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee. Lamont, who defeated Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) in the 2006 Democratic Senate primary, announced his campaign last November, and has been polling closely behind Bysiewicz.
Two other Democrats are in the race: Former Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy and former House Speaker James Amann, both of whom have lagged behind Lamont in polls. |
