BRIGHTON, Tenn. (AP) - A Republican candidate running to succeed Rep. John Tanner in Congress says he will now run as an independent.
Brighton businessman Donn Janes said he will now run as a "Tea Party" candidate for the 8th Congressional District seat in northwestern Tennessee. Janes said in a release that he wants to break the reliance on what he called the "corrupt" two-party system in America.
Tanner, a Democrat, announced in December he won't seek a 12th term.
Democratic state Sen. Roy Herron of Dresden and Republican farmer and gospel singer Stephen Fincher of Crockett County have led the field of candidates in fundraising. |
