Description | House Democrats appear prepared to pursue means other than a formal conference to finish work on a healthcare bill.
House chairmen and leaders will meet Tuesday to discuss how to proceed with health reform efforts, followed by a House Democratic Caucus meeting on Thursday "to discuss priorities and process and hear from members," according to one House Democratic aide.
But preliminary signals from Democratic leaders point to the House and Senate adopting a "ping pong" tactic in which the House would simply take up the Senate's healthcare bill, and send it back to the upper chamber for passage. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) told constituents, as reported by the liberal blog firedoglake, on Monday that there would be no formal conference, with agreements between House and Senate leaders packaged into a single amendment to the bill. |
