Description | A Barnsley, England man has been given a bionic bowel after nearly losing his life in a motorcycle crash. His bowel is now opened by remote control.
Ged Galvin, 55, was near death following a collision when a police officer pulled in front of him.
Mr Galvin, an IT project manager, was first fitted with a colostomy bag after suffering severe internal injuries but only while surgeons at the Royal London Hospital figured out how to repair his behind, reports the Telegraph.
The procedure involved removing a muscle from just above the knee, wrapping it around Galvin's sphincter and then attaching electrodes to the nerves. It is a procedure that must be repeated every 5 years. |
