Description | "Nancy Hillman stood on the edge of the balcony of the New Jersey General Assembly chambers and just stared at the vote tally board hanging on the wall in front of her.
Her hands were tightly clenched in anticipation of the vote that would allow women like her to share in a domestic partnership in the Garden State.
"We kept watching the people who hadn’t voted. Heck hadn’t voted, Friscia hadn’t voted, and a few other people hadn’t voted. We were watching Heck because she had voted ‘yes’ in committee last week and she wasn’t voting," Hillman said."
