DescriptionToday, after serving nearly 47 years in the Senate, Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) becomes the third-longest-serving Senator in U.S. history, passing Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who died in August.

“I’m not celebrating that day because I’m too busy to do that,” Inouye said. “I think it’s an achievement, to think that I’ve lasted that long.”
