| Description | A chicken-munching, beer-drinking racing crowd of 70,000 sat in a blazing sun yesterday, waved Confederate flags and cheered wildly as George Wallace promised to "send some of these national politicians to the pits" come November.
The crowd leaped to its feet as Wallace stepped onto a platform in the middle of the asphalt track prior to the start of the annual Southern 500 stock car race. |
