Description"A truck driver and McKeesport native is running for governor as an independent, promising not to be accountable to corporate donors as he runs a grassroots campaign.

Richard Gordon made a little-noticed announcement late last week, saying that he was “running for the people of Pennsylvania, for our children and grandchildren.”

“If the same politicians keep making the same decisions, then the big corporations will grow more powerful and we the people will have very little confidence in our future,” Gordon said in his announcement (video at bottom). “When I told my friends that I was interested in running for governor, they asked what political experience do I have, my response is none. I have no idea how to take money from big corporations, or how to make decisions based on how it will affect my political career or benefit the corporations that have paid my way. I am not a politician. I would like to become your public servant.”

In his announcement and on his campaign Web site (hat-tip to GrassrootsPA for pointing it out), he makes clear he’ll be looking to bypass traditional media and advertising strategies.

“With today’s internet access, there is no need to spend $10 million or more to win an election for a position that pays around $150,000 a year,” he said."
