Description | With many Republicans -- and Democrats -- awaiting his decision, Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie said he'll announce his political plans for 2010 in another week or so, after a trip to Alaska and a final consultation with his wife and children.
During a stop Thursday in Bolton, however, to herald construction of a mountaintop wind turbine project and the jobs it is creating, Dubie offered several indications he is leaning toward a run for governor.
"What we need in our next governor is someone to transform the state, a transformative person," Dubie told NewsChannel Five. He said while he was one of several people who could fill the role, "that is a challenge that has become more and more attractive to me."
Dubie, 51 of Essex, has won four terms as Lieutenant Governor and is retiring Gov. Jim Douglas' pick for a successor. Political analysts generally regard Dubie as the GOP's strongest hope of retaining the top job. Dubie said his focus would be "about representing the sensible middle, the sensible middle of Vermonters." |
