Description | ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. John Rarick, a civil rights era segregationist who served four terms in Congress and later was a third-party candidate for president, has died at the age of 85.
Rarick died late Monday, Cherie Brumfield, Rarick's daughter, told The Advocate newspaper of Baton Rouge. Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge said Rarick's funeral was scheduled for Thursday.
Born in Waterford, Ind., in 1924, Rarick served in the Army for three years. He was captured during World World War II but escaped from a German prison camp, according to his official congressional biography. |
