Description | Gov. Jay Nixon appointed state Rep. Dennis Wood presiding commissioner of Stone County on Wednesday and called a February special election to fill his House seat.
Wood, R-Kimberling City, will resign from the House today and be sworn into office at 3 p.m. at the Stone County Courthouse in Galena.
"Dennis Wood has been a strong representative for his constituents in Stone and Taney counties, and I appreciate how he has reached across the aisle on several issues important to people he represents," Nixon said in a statement.
Wood, a real estate agent, would have been term-limited from the House at the end of 2010 after four terms in office.
His resignation opens up the chairmanship of the House Tourism Committee, of which Wood became chairman this year.
"It's one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, because I love being a state representative," Wood said. |
