Description | Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told a group of 1,600 farmers and business people Thursday that Congress doesn't need to pass a broad-based health care reform package and should approve separate bills to tackle the issue of rising medical costs and the roughly 47 million people who lack health insurance.
“Do we have problems with American health care? Absolutely. We wish it were cheaper,” the Kentucky Republican said in a speech to the 46th annual Kentucky Ham Breakfast at the state fair. “But it's important to remember what's right about American health care. It's the finest quality in the world. … We don't want to change that.”
The issue is at the top of the national agenda with President Barack Obama pressing for an overhaul of the county's health care system, including a provision to allow uninsured people to purchase coverage from a federal government provider. |
