Description | The more we think about what we witnessed with Bill Young and Charlie Crist today, the more it seems to us that U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young basically told the governor to stuff it.
Young, who was elected as Florida's lone Republican state senator the same day Charlie Crist's dad was elected to the Pinellas School Board 50 years ago, is not the sort of fellow willing to play political games and suck up to somebody for a job he didn't seek in the first place.
So Charlie Crist flies into St. Petersburg-Clearwater Aiport, having summoned the senior Republican in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate for one of 10 job interviews. Asked if he's sure Young will even fill out the questionnaire to be considered, Crist told us he was confident.
Then Young waltzed into the lobby, in white sneakers and an untucked blue U.S. House polo, having squeezed Crist in between his granddaughters' gymnastics and dance classes. What they talked about behind closed doors we don't know. But they emerged to meet to the press afterward and Crist answered several questions lavishing priase on Young. Finally the Tampa Bay political icon is asked asked if he's seeking the job.
Nope, not interested. |
